I spent a solid 2-3 weeks with a nasty cough/cold, so my blog postings fell by the wayside for a while there. Basically at any point I had enough energy, I chose to spend it living the life that makes me come alive instead of just blogging.
I have a ton of great topics to write about, but just really need to commit time to jotting all of my thoughts and perceptions down. Before I hit the sack (gotta get at least 8 hours of sleep) I'll just share a couple awesome tidbits.
Burpee Challenge
I have a few friends doing the 100 day burpee challenge, where you do one burpee the first day, two the second, and so on for 100 days. I'm impressed by how committed people have been to the challenge, and there's a small (read: very small) part of me that wishes I were doing it too. If you don't know what a burpee is, YouTube it.
Muscle Imbalances
My roommate and I were chatting about good places to run in our neighborhood, and he mentioned that he runs to the dog park and back. I told him he could run a full circle, and he said he'd rather balance out his muscles so each side of his body gets the same workout. When you say it out loud it sounds like the obvious thing to do, but just how often do we take time to think about muscle imbalances? Are your triceps as strong as your biceps? Are your hamstrings as strong as your quads? Pay attention to muscle imbalances to prevent joint and muscle pain in the long run. Stretch. A lot. There was an article in Women's Health about it. Read it.
Weight Loss
When you lose motivation to exercise your body because you aren't really losing weight (fast enough, or at all) give it some extra thought--for a short while this bothered me. There was a brief period where I felt like my workouts weren't getting me anywhere, but today I realized that I'm probably stronger than I've ever been in my entire life. I did a pull up today. My first one ever. I couldn't even do it when I was a kid and it was supposed to easy. I remember when doing a plank was one of the hardest things in the world, and a side plank was completely out of the question. Don't give up. Don't lose motivation. Your body is capable of a ton of cool things, it just takes time. Be patient with it, and it will be good to you in the long run.
That's all for now. I've got more up my sleeve, but after a weekend of skiing, Turbo, and trampolining, I'm exhausted. Have a great week!
